9 Ways You Can Pay Your Bills in the Philippines
The truth is, paying bills isn’t our favourite thing. But, we have to – it’s a responsibility. Otherwise, we can’t keep on living with the comforts that we have now.

If you’re a little old school and still prefer to do things the traditional way, you’d rather head to the utility company’s office to pay bills.
If you’re one to wait for sweldo day, you’re most likely to queue at bills payment centres inside malls.
And, if you’re part of the digital age (or someone like me who refuses to get out of the couch to line up and make payment), mobile banking and bills payment apps are your go-to choices.
While we’re at the topic, how about we do a run through of bills payment options in the Philippines? There are a number of ways now.

  1. Bills Payment Centres
    Inside Malls
Almost every mall in the Philippines has a bills payment counter. It’s what most of us opt to use for our transactions:

Electric bills
Water bills
Monthly mobile phone service
Internet bills
Insurance
Government loans and services
Transportation tickets (Beep Card, airlines)
Other partner merchant transactions
Just ask the concierge or head to the customer service centre, and you’ll find your way to the floor where bills payment counters are. They might even be situated right next to or right where the customer service counter is. Just make sure you have cash on hand because it’s the only type of transaction accepted.

Utility Company’s Offices or Branches
You can also pay your bills directly to the offices of electricity and water supply companies. Look for the branch nearest you.

Internet and telecommunication service companies have branches inside malls.

There’s one bills’ payment service which has branches in various areas in the country – Bayad Center, Inc (see more about it below). It transacts mostly the same payments that bills counters in malls do. The other popular centre is Cebuana Lhuillier.

Depending on the service company you’re transacting with, cash, credit card, and debit card payments may be available.

  1. Mobile Banking Apps
Most banks, if not all, in the Philippines, have their own mobile apps with bills payment features. They have teamed up with different private and government service and utility companies so you can submit your payment directly.

Download them from the App Store or Google Play Store. The registration process, though, may differ depending on your bank’s protocol on deposit accounts and/or credit cards.

How to use: Keep in mind the following when using mobile banking apps when making transactions:

Monitor your transactions for suspicious entries.
Log out after every use.
Make sure you download the correct mobile app. Check the name from the bank’s website, or use the link from there.
Use strong a strong password and update it as needed.
Don’t use the app when connected to public WiFi.
Keep your Operating System updated.
Turn your Bluetooth off.

  1. Bayad Center Online and Mobile App
This bills payment option has branches around the country as mentioned above. And, it also provides online bills payment services – Bayad Center Online and Bayad Center Mobile App.

Both said platforms cater to the same transactions the company’s store branches accept:

Water bills
Electricity bills
Cable
Telecommunication bills
NBI
POEA
Both Bayad Center platforms accept PayPal, credit card, prepaid credit card, and debit card payments.

Bayad Center, Inc. is run by Meralco, a widely used electric power distribution company in the Philippines. Its mobile apps and online site holds bills payment, push reminders, and locator features.

  1. Meralco App
Yes, Meralco has its own online payment platform. And, it’s actually pretty handy.

The Meralco App contains the following features:

Payment facility
Power outage reporting
Checking of appliance power consumption
Business Center locator
Orange Tag
Appliance buying and usage tips

It needs to be “loaded” with funds before you can use it. You can do so by going to a Globe store branch or an authorized Globe merchant (ex. 7 Eleven, Bayad Center). Or, you can do PayPal or bank transfer.

There are about 82 billers you can pay via the GCash app including credit card, airline, cable, and insurance companies, and academic and government institutions.

  1. PayMaya
PayMaya is a virtual prepaid card owned by Smart Communications. It can be used for online transactions – online shopping, in-game or mobile app purchases, etc. It has also partnered with other merchants to provide its users’ perks such discounts at restaurants.

You need to “load” your PayMaya virtual card with funds as well. You can do so via SM Business Centres, 7 Eleven Cliqq kiosks, Robinsons Department Stores, and BDO funds transfer.

Do note that PayMaya has partnered with Bayad Center for its bills payment service. Still, you can use the app for your other payment transactions.

  1. Coins.ph
If you use bitcoin, using Coins.ph for paying your bills might be what you should be doing. This mobile wallet also allows transfer and receipt of funds and topping up Beep Cards.

And, since it’s a mobile wallet, you need to load it up to use it for bills payment. You can “cash in” via partner banks, 7 Eleven, M Lhuillier, Palawan Pawnshop, and Cebuana Lhuillier.

  1. Cliqq by 7-Eleven
This mobile app by a known convenience store works differently from the other bills payment apps in this list. It somehow accommodates the fact that there are still citizens who refuse to use credit or debit card on online transactions.

When using Cliqq, you need to key in your bill’s account number, the registered name, and the amount to be paid. The app will, then, generate a bar code which you need to present at any 7-Eleven counter to pay your bill with cash.

This app works best for those with easy access to a 7-Eleven branch.

  1. ATM
Don’t forget, you can also pay your bills at any ATM. This is particularly useful for your credit card payments.

The main takeaway here is that we need to be paying our bills – and on time! That gets rid of all the follow-up calls from customer service agents and the overdue charges.

Important: Note that it may take two to three working days for payments to be posted on some mobile apps.
Where do you pay your bills? Are there other bills payment options that you would recommend for Filipinos?
